"Greenland, US Alaska Acquisition"... Outraged at Trump, Openly Fake News

Danish Media Publishes April Fools' Article on "Acquisition of Alaska"
Satirizes Trump's Repeated Claims of "Buying Greenland"

A local Danish media outlet reported on April Fools' Day that "the Greenland Self-Government announced the acquisition of the U.S. state of Alaska." This is interpreted as a satire amid U.S. President Donald Trump's repeated claims of annexing Greenland, a Danish territory, into U.S. territory.

"Greenland, US Alaska Acquisition"... Outraged at Trump, Openly Fake News

On the 1st (local time), Danish public broadcaster KNR published an article titled "A New Union: Alaska Should Become Part of Greenland," reporting that "a new coalition government composed of four parties announced yesterday afternoon that Alaska will become part of Greenland." It added, "The coalition government aims to make this a reality," and stated, "Alaska should become part of Greenland."

KNR quoted Greenlandic politician Akalu Jeremiasen saying, "If Alaska becomes part of Greenland, we will have many landscapes with good opportunities for fishing grounds, trout fishing, and hunting," and "Taxes on goods containing alcohol, tobacco, and sugar will be significantly increased. After 20 years, Greenland will have earned enough money to return taxes in Alaska to normal levels."

It also cited the leader of Greenland's minor party Atassut, saying, "Inspired by the U.S. president's remarks about buying Greenland, this idea started from the notion that Greenland could also purchase other countries."

However, this article is an April Fools' joke with a plausible lie. KNR clarified at the end of the article that it was an "April Fools' joke." Such humorous articles are interpreted as criticism of President Trump on April Fools' Day. Recently, President Trump has openly expressed his intention to annex Greenland, and this satirical article responded by suggesting buying Alaska, a U.S. territory.

Since taking office, President Trump has caused controversy with remarks such as "I will buy Greenland" and "I want Greenland." U.S. Vice President JD Vance also visited Greenland last month and criticized Denmark for failing to properly invest in Greenland's security, saying it "did not fulfill its role." In response, Denmark emphasized that "Greenland is not for sale" and expressed willingness to cooperate with the U.S. to strengthen Greenland's security.
