Yongin City Greatly Enhances Functions of AI 'Suni' Caring for Seniors

Yongin City has developed the '2nd generation Suni,' which improves the inconveniences of the existing service, and has begun full-scale operation.

The 2nd generation service complements the drawbacks of the existing 1st generation, which required wearing a wearable band on the wrist, allowing use simply by installing an application on a smartphone. The six home sensors have also been reduced to only three essential locations such as the refrigerator, remote control, and medicine container.

Functions for caregivers have also been enhanced. Various information such as the elderly person's early morning activity status, abnormal behavior alerts, real-time location tracking, and medication reminders are automatically provided twice a day. Through the app, users can enjoy various leisure contents such as quizzes, exercises, karaoke, as well as the 'SuniTube' service, which offers over 500 short-form videos.

The service is provided to single- or two-person households aged 65 or older residing in Yongin who are capable of daily living. Households wishing to use the service can apply through the administrative welfare centers in their residential eup, myeon, or dong.

Lee Sang-il, mayor of Yongin City, said, "We will continue to develop the Suni service to protect the health and safety of the elderly," and added, "We will continue to listen to the voices of the elderly and their caregivers and strive to become a model city for care welfare services utilizing AI technology."
