Finals to Be Held for Six Days at May 18 Democracy Square, September 7-12
Para Archery Finals Scheduled for September 27-28
Strong Athlete Registration Signals Anticipated Success
The finals of the 'Gwangju 2025 Hyundai World Archery Championships,' which will fill various parts of Gwangju with the intense passion of archery this September, will be held over six days, double the duration compared to last year.
The Gwangju 2025 World (Para) Archery Championships Organizing Committee announced on the 2nd that the finals will take place at the May 18 Democracy Square from September 7 to 12, spanning six days.
While the finals of the World Archery Championships have typically been held over three days, this year's event will, for the first time since its inception in 1931, be extended to a six-day schedule. It is expected to become the longest finals in the tournament's history.
The organizing committee explained that the reason for extending the finals is "to allow not only Gwangju citizens but also domestic and international tourists to enjoy and actively participate in the event for a longer period."
The finals of the World Para Archery Championships will also be held at the May 18 Democracy Square for two days starting September 27. The event is expected to provide unforgettable excitement and joy to Gwangju citizens and archery fans worldwide.
The organizing committee is also considering live internet broadcasting so that more people can enjoy the finals held at the May 18 Democracy Square, a symbol of peace. In addition, the committee aims to make this event a special festival that delivers messages of culture, history, and peace to the world, beyond just a sports competition.
Excitement for participation is already high. Within just five days of opening preliminary entry registration, 335 athletes and officials (including team managers, coaches, and medical staff) from 27 countries have applied for the World Archery Championships, while 132 athletes and officials from 12 countries have registered for the World Para Archery Championships. This demonstrates the global archery community's focus on Gwangju and raises expectations for a successful event.
Meanwhile, the World (Para) Archery Championships is a prestigious international competition where the world's top archers gather to compete. It is expected to further strengthen Gwangju's status as an 'international sports city.'
