Second and Third Place for Non-English TV Shows on Netflix
"The Parable" Tops Non-English Film Category for Second Consecutive Week
Korean dramas have gained worldwide popularity, securing top spots in Netflix viewership rankings. According to the official Netflix website "Netflix Top 10" on April 2, "Weak Hero Class 1," starring Park Jihoon and Choi Hyunwook, recorded 6.7 million views from March 24 to 30. It ranked second in the non-English TV show category, following Argentina's "Trap" Season 1, which garnered 8.2 million views. The series topped the charts in five countries, including Japan and Thailand, and entered the top 10 in seventy countries.
"When Life Gives You Tangerines," starring Park Bogum and Lee Jieun, ranked third with 6 million views. It outperformed Spain's "Ladies' Companion" (2.6 million views) and France's "From Rockstar to Murderer" (1.9 million views) by a significant margin. The series took the top spot in four countries, including Vietnam, and joined the top 10 in thirty-nine countries. The view count is calculated by dividing total viewing hours by the full running time. Netflix introduced this metric to more accurately gauge the popularity of movies and mini-series, which tend to have shorter running times.
Meanwhile, director Yeon Sangho's "The Parable" topped the non-English film category for the second consecutive week. The film entered the top 10 in sixty-five countries and recorded 6.9 million views. It easily outperformed India's "Devara" (2.8 million views), Mexico's "Counterattack" (2.7 million views), and Finland's "Little Siberia" (2.6 million views).
