"Nonexistent but Existing"
Artist Park Sujin, a graduate of the Department of Western Painting at Sejong University Graduate School, will hold her 12th solo exhibition at Gallery PaL in Sinsa-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, from the 1st to the 12th.
Under the theme "Nonexistent but Existing," this exhibition artistically explores the loneliness, anxiety, and tension experienced by humans in modern society.
Park visualizes anonymized human psychology as "shadows," confronting the psychological emptiness that has become widespread in an era of materialism and information overload. The figures and objects in her works drift separately without forming relationships, and the backgrounds are set in surreal spaces reminiscent of theatrical stages, evoking a sense of alienation and unfamiliarity.
In particular, this exhibition borrows familiar image fragments to evoke feelings that are both familiar and uncomfortable, encouraging viewers to face their inner selves. Park said, "The emptiness of the space expressed as shadows reveals the psychological state of humans who turn away from themselves and become numb," adding, "I hope viewers reconsider the emotions and landscapes they once found familiar."
Meanwhile, since graduating from Sejong University Graduate School, Park Sujin has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions both domestically and internationally, building her own aesthetic. This exhibition is a condensed reflection on the "essence of existence," which the artist has explored for nearly 20 years, and is gaining attention as a meaningful attempt to pose questions about society and humanity through art.
