Naju Mayor Yoon Byungtae has called for thorough implementation of special wildfire prevention measures, foot-and-mouth disease quarantine, and preparations for various events as the peak travel season begins.
At the April regular meeting held in the city hall’s main conference room on the 1st, Mayor Yoon emphasized, “No matter how many times we stress the importance of wildfire prevention, it is never too much,” and added, “I hope everyone will do their best to prevent wildfires during Cheongmyeong and Hansik, when there is a high influx of visitors, as well as by closely monitoring forest-adjacent areas where careless burning often occurs.”
He continued, “The foot-and-mouth disease quarantine crisis level has been maintained at the highest level since March 14,” and requested, “Please ensure thorough quarantine by prohibiting gatherings and events among livestock farmers, conducting vaccinations, disinfection, operating a 24-hour emergency response team, and cooperating with farms, livestock cooperatives, and organizations to block the spread of the disease.”
He also asked for meticulous preparations for major events and strict measures for the convenience and safety of citizens and tourists during April and May, when the largest number of events take place throughout the year.
In April, Naju will host the 5th Millennium Naju-mok Eupseong Cultural Festival (April 4-6), the 11th Hansuje Cherry Blossom Festival (April 5), the Naju Baesinje Ceremony (April 5), and the Agricultural Launch Ceremony (April 18).
In May, there will be the Children’s Day celebration (May 5), Family Month Family Festival (May 10), KBS National Singing Contest (May 20), the 21st Yeongsanpo Hongeo Festival (May 23-25), and the Youth Day celebration (May 30). The “Eupmyeon-dong Residents’ Day,” a community harmony event, will be held in 12 eup, myeon, and dong areas from April 5 to May 2.
Mayor Yoon stressed, “I hope each department will prepare thoroughly so that all planned events can proceed without a hitch,” and added, “We must establish exceptionally thorough preventive measures for traffic, parking, environmental management, and especially safety management.”
Regarding preparations for the main farming season, he said, “Please disseminate weather information in real time to prevent crop damage from abnormal temperatures before and after pear blossom season, and work hard to promote the prevention of agricultural machinery accidents.”
He also emphasized the importance of successfully promoting large-scale pending projects and securing next year’s national budget.
Mayor Yoon explained, “The government will finalize departmental budgets by the end of May, and the Ministry of Economy and Finance will begin its review in June. We must thoroughly prepare the justification for projects to secure the 2025 national budget and public contest selections, and frequently visit Jeollanam-do and central government agencies.”
He also called for advance preparations for major strategic events such as the Bitgaram Complex Innovation Center, the Living SOC Complex Center (both scheduled for completion this year), as well as the Yeongsangang Garden, Najucheon Ecological Waterway Park, 2025 Naju Yeongsangang Festival, National Naju Marathon, and the Naju Global Energy Forum 2025.
