Leadership Change Following Vice Chairman Han Jonghee's Passing
New COO Position Established in MX Division
Kim Cheolgi Appointed Head of Digital Appliances Division
"Aiming for Early Organizational Stabilization"

Samsung Electronics announced on the 1st that it has appointed No Tae-moon, President of the Mobile Experience (MX) Division, as the Acting Head of the Device Experience (DX) Division.

This personnel move was made swiftly to fill the leadership gap caused by the sudden passing of the late Vice Chairman and CEO Han Jong-hee.

President No will concurrently serve as the Chairman of the Quality Innovation Committee, a position previously held by Vice Chairman Han, in addition to his existing role as head of the MX Division. Samsung Electronics stated, "By entrusting the Acting Head of the DX Division to the MX Division leader, we aim to stabilize the organization early," and added, "Based on his successful experience in the smartphone business, we expect him to strengthen competitiveness not only in the MX business but also in the set business."

President No is known as a smartphone expert who led the development of the Galaxy series and created the 'Galaxy myth.' Born in 1968, he graduated from Yonsei University with a degree in Electronic Engineering and from Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH) with a graduate degree in Electrical Engineering. He joined Samsung Electronics' Wireless Business Division in 1997 and has built nearly 30 years of experience in the wireless division, serving as head of the Innovative Product Development Team, Product Strategy Team, and Development Office.

He has been leading the MX Division (formerly the Wireless Business Division) since 2020 and has concurrently served as the head of the Design Management Center since 2022. He was reappointed as an inside director at the shareholders' meeting held on the 19th of last month.

With President No concurrently serving as Acting Head of the DX Division, a new president-level Chief Operating Officer (COO) position has been established within the MX Division. Choi Won-jun, who was promoted to president through a 'one-point personnel move' earlier last month and serves as head of the MX Division Development Office and Global Operations Team, will also serve as the MX Division COO in addition to his existing roles. Born in 1970, President Choi is a former Qualcomm employee. After joining Samsung Electronics, he led the development of the Galaxy series as head of the Next Generation Product Development Team, Strategic Product Development Team, and Development Office within the MX Division. Going forward, as MX Division COO, he is expected to oversee business operations and contribute to strengthening the global competitiveness of the mobile business.

The head of the Digital Appliances (DA) Division, a position previously held by Vice Chairman Han, will be taken over by Kim Cheol-gi, Vice President and head of the MX Division Strategic Marketing Office, who is an expert in sales and marketing. It is unusual for a sales and marketing expert to lead the DA Division. Born in 1968, Vice President Kim joined Samsung Motors and was responsible for parts technology and quality tasks. He has also gained experience in sales across all products including smartphones, home appliances, and TVs, combining expertise in both technology and sales. He has been leading the MX Division Strategic Marketing Office since the end of last year. Samsung Electronics said, "By appointing a sales and marketing expert as head of the DA Division, we aim to drive business innovation," and added, "We expect him to lead a new leap forward in the home appliance business through his rich insights and market experience."

Cho Sung-hyuk, Vice President and Head of the Europe Headquarters, has been appointed as the new head of the MX Division Strategic Marketing Office, previously held by Vice President Kim. Samsung Electronics stated, "Through this personnel appointment, we plan to minimize the leadership gap in the DX Division and make every effort to ensure there are no setbacks in strengthening global competitiveness and preparing for the future."
