Nearby Museums Also Set to Close for a Day
With the impeachment trial verdict date for President Yoon Suk-yeol set for the 4th, palaces and museums around the Constitutional Court are scheduled to close for the day. The Cultural Heritage Administration's Palace and Royal Tombs Headquarters announced on the 1st that Gyeongbokgung, Changdeokgung, and Deoksugung Palaces will be closed on the 4th, the day of the verdict. They plan to decide whether to extend the closure period based on future circumstances.
There have been ongoing gatherings near Anguk Station and the Gwanghwamun area close to the Constitutional Court. Several tents from both pro- and anti-impeachment groups have also been set up around Gyeongbokgung. Changdeokgung is located about 600 meters from the Constitutional Court.
If Gyeongbokgung closes, the nearby National Folk Museum is also likely to close. The museum is currently discussing whether to close and the duration of any closure.
Cultural facilities near the Constitutional Court are also announcing closures through their websites and social media (SNS). The Seoul Museum of Craft Art near Anguk Station announced, “Due to the declaration of a special crime prevention zone in the Jongno-gu and Jung-gu areas on the 4th, the day of the impeachment trial verdict, we will be closed.” Unhyeongung, about 300 meters from the Constitutional Court, also stated, “On the day of the impeachment trial verdict, to ensure citizens' safety and preserve national heritage, we plan to temporarily suspend visits.”
