Dongdaemun-gu (District Mayor Lee Pil-hyung) announced on the 1st that the 'Seoul Mind Convenience Store' has been established on the 3rd floor of the Dongdaemun Comprehensive Social Welfare Center.
The 'Seoul Mind Convenience Store' is one of the policies of 'A Seoul Without Loneliness' announced by Seoul City in October last year. It is a space to soothe the lonely hearts of Seoul citizens. Anyone can visit anytime like a convenience store to share their stories and obtain helpful information.
The Dongdaemun branch, which opened on the 31st, is equipped with ▲communication space (65㎡) ▲dining space (20㎡) ▲counseling space (15㎡). Additionally, to allow users to rest and communicate comfortably, it is furnished with a ramen cooker, coffee machine, foot bath, smart table, Nintendo WII, board games, and more.
Yu Hyun-sook, Director of Welfare Policy at Dongdaemun-gu, said, "This time, one Seoul Mind Convenience Store was established in each of the four districts including Dongdaemun-gu. Each district operates different communication programs, and our district's specialized programs include the cooking club 'Daejanggeum' for middle-aged single-person households, the exercise-based 'Strong Club,' and the 'Movie Viewing Club.'"
Users can self-assess their loneliness and risk of isolation through a checklist during their first visit, and those with experience of isolation or in need can also receive counseling with social workers.
Lee Pil-hyung, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, said, "We will strive to ensure that the Seoul Mind Convenience Store plays its role as a space to relieve social isolation and loneliness among middle-aged single-person households and provide peace of mind."
At the opening ceremony, Lee Bora, team leader of the Social Contribution Team at Daesang Co., Ltd., donated approximately 70 million KRW worth of convenience foods such as ramen and dumplings to be stocked at the Mind Convenience Store.
