Raising Awareness of the Value of Life
in Preparation for the "Spring Peak" Phenomenon
Mokpo Maritime Police Station (Chief Kwon Oseong) announced on the 1st that it held a joint campaign with the Mokpo City Hadang Public Health Center near Mokpo Bridge in Jukgyo-dong, Mokpo City, to prevent suicide and raise awareness about mental health.
This campaign was organized to prepare for the "Spring Peak" phenomenon, where suicide rates increase due to temperature changes and seasonal factors in spring (March to May).

Police officers from the Mokpo Coast Guard Bukhang Police Box and staff from the Hadang Public Health Center patrolled the area near Mokpo Bridge, distributing mini pamphlets containing suicide prevention information to citizens.
In addition, banners with messages emphasizing the value of life were displayed at the entrance to Mokpo Bridge to raise awareness. In the event of a suicide attempt or unauthorized pedestrian on Mokpo Bridge or other maritime bridges, the Coast Guard will immediately respond, take safety measures, and carry out rescue operations.
To respond to such emergencies, Mokpo Coast Guard has strengthened 24-hour patrols and continues to improve prevention and rescue systems in cooperation with the police and health authorities.
Kim Hyeongjun, chief of the Bukhang Police Box who participated in this campaign, said, "It is important for related organizations such as the Coast Guard and health agencies to cooperate for suicide prevention," and added, "We will continue to work on suicide prevention and improving mental health awareness through regular campaigns in the future."
