Considered the Optimal Location for Attracting the Center
Cheonan City in Chungnam Province announced on the 1st that both domestic and international artificial intelligence companies have been making inquiries regarding the bid for the National AI Computing Center.
This center is an advanced semiconductor-based facility designed to support AI services and model development. The government plans to establish a special purpose company (SPC) with the private sector and invest 2.5 trillion KRW by 2027 to create it.
Companies are evaluating Cheonan's strengths, such as convenient transportation connecting the Seoul metropolitan area, Gyeongsang region, and Honam region, as well as operational workforce, AI industry activation, and profitability. They have been visiting Cheonan to inquire about specific details.
This is because, if the center is established, demand will not be limited to the local area but will require accessibility for companies, research institutes, and universities nationwide.
Additionally, the establishment of the Chungcheong Special Local Government (Megacity), the first of its kind in the country, is also cited as a factor increasing interest.
A city official stated, "It is difficult to disclose the names of specific companies, but so far, nine companies have shown interest," and added, "Given the city's excellent location and infrastructure, it appears to be considered the optimal site for the center."
Meanwhile, Cheonan, along with Busan, Gwangju, and Pohang, has entered the competition to attract the center.
