Recorded Highest-Ever First-Quarter Sales
772,351 Units Sold Globally, Up 1.6% Year-on-Year
Since Kia entered the automobile industry in 1962, it has recorded the highest first-quarter sales ever.
On the 1st, Kia announced that it sold 772,351 units in the global market, including domestic and overseas markets, in the first quarter of this year, an increase of 1.6% compared to the same period last year. The previous highest first-quarter sales record was 769,917 units in 2014.
Sales performance by region in the first quarter of this year was 134,412 units domestically, 637,051 units overseas, and 888 units in special vehicles.
As of March, Kia sold 278,058 units, an increase of 2.2% compared to the same period last year. In March, domestic sales were 50,006 units, overseas sales were 227,724 units, and special vehicles were 328 units. Compared to the same period last year, domestic and overseas sales increased by 2.0% and 2.2%, respectively.
By model, the Sportage was the best-selling vehicle in the global market with 49,196 units sold, followed by the Sorento with 25,942 units and the Seltos with 25,790 units.
A Kia official said, "Hybrid models of sports utility vehicles (SUVs) such as the EV3, Sportage, and Sorento, which were launched in the second half of last year, led strong sales and recorded the highest first-quarter sales ever," adding, "We will continue the sales momentum with competitive new models such as the EV4 and Tasman."
