Dong-A University Professor Kim Doohyun Selected for Advanced Precision Breeding High Value-Added Industrial Technology Development Project

Department of Smart Green Resources Receives 1.46 Billion KRW for 2 Years and 9 Months from the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs
Aiming to Develop Functional Priming Technology
for Enhancing Quality and Added Value of Domestic Seeds

Dong-A University (President Lee Haewoo) announced on the 1st that Professor Kim Doohyun from the Department of Smart Green Resources, College of Life Resources Science, has been selected for the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs' "Advanced Precision Breeding Utilization High Value-Added Industrialization Technology Development Project" and will conduct research on "Development of Functional Priming New Materials and High Value-Added Industrialization for Enhancing Cultivation Stability of Vegetable Seeds."


With Professor Kim Doohyun serving as the principal investigator, Dong-A University will receive 1.1 billion KRW in funding for 2 years and 9 months (with a total research fund of 1.46 billion KRW including joint research institution support).


The goal of this research is to develop functional priming technology to improve the quality and added value of domestic seeds.


The research team plans to develop new materials and processing technologies that can advance existing priming technology to overcome agricultural production instability caused by climate change and plant diseases.


This is expected to enhance the cultivation stability and quality of seeds, thereby strengthening the competitiveness of the domestic seed industry. It is also anticipated to play a significant role in expanding seed exports and fostering experts in seed processing technology.


Professor Kim Doohyun stated, "Thanks to the graduate students in the Bio Resources Laboratory who worked diligently on the research and the colleagues who supported us through collaborative studies, we were able to be selected for this project. We will do our best to develop and commercialize functional priming technology so that crops can be cultivated stably in various environments. We will continue to strive to ensure that our research results can be industrially utilized in the future."


Previously, Professor Kim Doohyun was also selected for the National Research Foundation of Korea's Basic Research Program (Individual Research) Mid-Career Research (Type 2) project, with the research topic "Development of Metabolite-Based Biopesticide Materials and Identification of Active Substances for the Control of Bacterial Seed-Borne Diseases Derived from Mogamjunamu," and will receive 710 million KRW in research funding until February 2028.


As a result, Professor Kim Doohyun's laboratory is expected to secure a total of 1.8 billion KRW in research funding over the next three years to continue ongoing research.
