National Health Insurance Service Busan Ulsan Gyeongnam Regional Office Launches 'Gold Senior Dream Class'

'Gold Senior Dream Class'
Health Program for Seniors in Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam
Promoting Self-Health Management and Healthy Lifestyles for the Elderly

The National Health Insurance Service Busan Ulsan Gyeongnam Regional Headquarters (Director: Cho Junhee) will operate the 'Gold Senior Dream Class' for senior students (400 people) from the Busan and Ulsan Senior Citizens' Associations and senior colleges in Gyeongnam from April 15 to May 29 (four sessions).

The 'Gold Senior Dream Class' is a health program for seniors in the Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam regions, designed to address concerns about deteriorating senior health as society enters a super-aged era and to promote self-health management skills and healthy lifestyles. The program covers topics such as the prevention of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases among the elderly.

The rate of super-aging in Busan (22.5%), Ulsan (15.8%), and Gyeongnam (20.5%) exceeds the national average (18.9%), and the proportion of seniors experiencing depression has increased to 71.7% as of 2023, highlighting the worsening health issues among the elderly. In response, the Service is collaborating with the Korean Senior Citizens Association and senior colleges in Gyeongnam to implement a health class program aimed at improving seniors' self-health management abilities.

This 'Gold Senior Dream Class' carries the meaning of 'supporting a healthy second life.' Through the health class, the program aims to strengthen seniors' self-health management skills and foster senior health instructors who will practice Nono-care (elderly caring for the elderly), serving as health messengers in the local community.

The National Health Insurance Service is developing and operating various health promotion projects through citizen participation-based specialized programs. The 'Healthy 100-Year Life Exercise Class,' which has been conducted nationwide for 20 years since 2005, has expanded 1.3 times (from 4,013 to 9,200 participants) compared to last year.

Director Cho Junhee stated, "Through this project, we will establish a senior care system within the local community so that seniors can improve their self-health management abilities and enjoy a healthy old age, fulfilling our role as guardians of the nation's health."
