Goheung County Begins Construction of Luxury Silk Trail on Geogeumdo Island

Decked Trails, Mat Paths, and Observatories Along 51.3 km of Coastline

Goheung County in Jeollanam-do (Governor Gong Youngmin) held a groundbreaking ceremony for the Geogeum Bidan Dulle-gil Trail, which is expected to become a landmark of Goheung tourism, and the Jeokdaebong Ecological Trail at Geumui Sibi Park in Geumsan-myeon on the 31st. The county also held a completion ceremony for the Geumui Sibi Park Observatory, marking the official launch of the Geogeum Tourism Project.


This project is one of the pledges of the 8th popularly elected administration and is a core part of the Geogeum Tourism Project, which aims to surpass Jeju Island. The project involves the creation of the Geogeumdo Premium Bidan Dulle-gil Trail.

The project will establish a decked trail, palm mat paths, observatories, and more along a total of 51.3 km of the Geogeumdo coastline, with an estimated budget of 40 billion KRW.


The first phase of the project, which held its groundbreaking ceremony today, will cover a 6.7 km section from Ikgeum to Ocheon Village, with an investment of 5 billion KRW and is scheduled for completion by 2027. This trail will be designed to showcase the stunning coastal scenery of the southern coast of Geumsan-myeon at a glance.


Additionally, the Jeokdaebong Ecological Trail project is designated as a National Ecological Trail by the Ministry of Environment. From 2025 to 2026, a total of 5 billion KRW will be invested to create a 12.2 km ecological trail, loess barefoot paths, observatories, deck roads, and parking lots in the Jeokdaebong area of Geumsan-myeon.


The trail will connect Geumui Sibi Park, traverse Jeokdaebong, and extend to Hongyeon Samgeori, allowing visitors to experience abundant forest resources and enjoy panoramic views of the beautiful Dadohae seascape, including Sorokdo and Nokdong Port.


The Geumui Sibi Park Observatory was constructed as part of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's coastal and inland development project, with a total investment of 2.8 billion KRW to build the observatory, multipurpose cultural space, parking lot, and walking paths.


Governor Gong Youngmin stated, "Geumsan-myeon will become a landmark of marine-friendly tourism in the Geogeum-Nokdong area, which is one of the six major tourism zones in Goheung. We will create a premium trail that everyone will want to walk at least once."


A county official added, "Once these projects are completed, the trails connecting the mountains and coast around Jeokdaebong will further highlight the charm of Geogeumdo. We expect these new attractions to become places where local residents and tourists alike can heal in nature."
