The proxy team for President Yoon Suk-yeol announced that it has not yet been decided whether President Yoon will attend the impeachment trial verdict scheduled by the Constitutional Court on the 4th.
On the 1st, Yoon Gap-geun, a lawyer representing President Yoon, stated that the president's attendance at the Constitutional Court's impeachment trial verdict day is "undecided."
Former Presidents Roh Moo-hyun and Park Geun-hye did not attend the Constitutional Court on the day of their verdicts.
The Constitutional Court announced that it will deliver the verdict on President Yoon's impeachment trial at 11 a.m. on Friday, the 4th, in the Constitutional Court's Grand Bench. This comes 111 days after the National Assembly passed the impeachment motion against President Yoon last year. The court concluded the hearings on February 25 and has been deliberating for over a month.
If the Constitutional Court upholds the impeachment and orders President Yoon's removal, a presidential election must be held within 60 days. It is highly likely that the election will take place during the first week of June. If the impeachment is dismissed or rejected, President Yoon will immediately resume his presidential duties. The court also announced that the verdict will be broadcast live by broadcasters and that the public will be allowed to attend the hearing.
The police plan to create a "vacuum state" by blocking public access within a 100-meter radius around the Constitutional Court in Jaedong, Jongno-gu, Seoul, on the day of the impeachment verdict to prepare for any emergencies. The police have activated the highest alert level, mobilizing about 20,000 officers, and drone flights over the court will be prohibited. Barbed wire has already been installed atop the court's fence, and the surrounding area has been barricaded with vehicle barriers, with significant preparations underway.
