Kwon Young-se and Kwon Seong-dong on Yoon's Sentencing Date Designation: "Must Accept Constitutional Court Ruling"

Toward the Opposition: "Stop Pressuring the Constitutional Court and Accept the Ruling"
Expecting a Neutral and Fair Decision from the Court

The leadership of the People Power Party raised their voices on the 1st, saying "We must accept the ruling" after the Constitutional Court announced that the date for the impeachment trial verdict of President Yoon Seok-yeol was set for the 4th.

On the same day, Kwon Young-se, the emergency committee chairman of the People Power Party, met with reporters immediately after an AI meeting held at the Seoul AI Hub in Seocho-gu, Seoul, and said, "Of course, we hope for dismissal, but we do not know what conclusion will come out. We expect a neutral and fair decision."

He added, "I was very worried after hearing recently that the opposition party was preparing an unconstitutional impeachment motion," and said, "I think it is very fortunate that the Constitutional Court has now set a date to resolve the unstable situation."

Chairman Kwon also pointed out, "I have repeatedly stated the necessity of acceptance, and I understand that the opposition party has never made such remarks," adding, "Instead of threatening by talking about bloodshed, I think the opposition party should accept the decision regardless of the outcome."

On the same day, Kwon Seong-dong, the floor leader, emphasized a fair ruling and acceptance of the verdict in an urgent back-briefing message distributed to the press corps. He said, "Our party has urged the Constitutional Court to set a prompt verdict date. We consider it fortunate and welcome that the court has set a date quickly," adding, "The presidential impeachment trial is a grave national matter, a very difficult and challenging path that can change the fate of the nation and its people. We expect a fair ruling based on legal principles and conscience."

Regarding the Democratic Party of Korea, he urged, "Currently, the Democratic Party is forcing a specific ruling on the Constitutional Court, resembling a people's trial, and some lawmakers have even declared non-acceptance before the verdict was announced," and called for "an immediate halt."

He continued, "The Constitutional Court must never be shaken by the Democratic Party's offensive that induces and forces a specific conclusion," urging caution.

Furthermore, he stated, "The People Power Party will accept the Constitutional Court's ruling," and urged, "Regardless of the ruling, social conflicts are expected to intensify. After the court's verdict, the political circles, including both ruling and opposition parties, must take the lead in easing public conflicts and uniting the people."
