Park Chan-dae: "The Only Way to End the Insurrection Is the Dismissal of Yoon"
When Asked About an 'Expected Unanimous Constitutional Court Ruling,' He Says, "I Am Confident"
With the impeachment trial verdict date for President Yoon Seok-yeol set for the 4th, Park Chan-dae, floor leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, stated, "We, along with the people, expect the eight Constitutional Court justices to resolve the crisis of democracy, the crisis of people's livelihood, and the security crisis by dismissing the insurrection ringleader Yoon Seok-yeol."
On the 1st, Park held a press conference in front of the Prime Minister's official residence in Samcheong-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul, saying, "Although Prime Minister Han Deok-soo and Deputy Prime Minister Choi Sang-mok maintained an unconstitutional status and did not have the opportunity to restore it, I think it is at least fortunate that the verdict will be delivered on the 4th."
He added, "The Constitutional Court now clearly declares before the people that the best ruling to suppress and end this insurrection situation is undoubtedly the dismissal of the insurrection ringleader Yoon Seok-yeol."
Regarding the situation where the impeachment trial must be concluded by eight Constitutional Court justices, Park held Acting President and Prime Minister Han Deok-soo and former Acting Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister for Economy and Minister of Strategy and Finance Choi Sang-mok responsible. He pointed out, "It is truly regrettable that Acting President Han did not appoint Ma Eun-hyuk as a Constitutional Court justice nominee, resulting in the verdict being reached while maintaining the unconstitutional status until the end."
When asked if he expects a unanimous decision from the Constitutional Court in the impeachment trial, he said, "I am confident," and raised his voice, "Since the current situation with eight Constitutional Court justices itself arose from a violation of the Constitution, I believe the most appropriate way to avoid this is dismissal."
Park Sung-jun, the senior deputy floor leader, also told reporters, "Although there were considerable concerns as the Constitutional Court's ruling was delayed, I believe a dismissal decision will definitely be made on the 4th," adding, "Not only the Democratic Party but the entire nation will make every effort to unite public sentiment."
Meanwhile, the Democratic Party plans to report the impeachment motion against Deputy Prime Minister Choi, jointly proposed with the four opposition parties, at the plenary session on the 2nd. However, regarding whether to push forward with the impeachment motion against Acting President Han, who has not appointed nominee Ma, and the report on Deputy Prime Minister Choi up to a resolution, Park, the senior deputy floor leader, responded, "We will make a strategic judgment."
