Recruitment for Residents at Mapo Youth House, the 'Youth Housing Solution'

Mapo-gu (Mayor Park Gang-su) is recruiting residents for the ‘Mapo Youth House’ until April 8 to ensure housing stability for young people.

According to the 2024 Statistics Korea Social Survey, the most common reason for hesitating to marry was ‘lack of marriage funds.’ Among marriage expenses, housing costs, which make up the majority, are the biggest barrier to marriage.

Moreover, high housing costs are one of the greatest burdens that take away numerous opportunities from young people and weigh heavily on their shoulders.

In response, Mapo-gu plans to help young people dream of a bright future in a comfortable environment by providing the ‘Mapo Youth House,’ which can be used at a lower cost than the surrounding market prices.

The ‘Mapo Youth House’ consists of a total of 29 units located on the 3rd and 4th floors of the Yeonnam Silppuri Welfare Center (84 Yeonnam-ro), where the Gyeongui Line Forest Trail begins.

This public construction rental housing, directly operated by Mapo-gu, offers various layouts including studio-type units for single-person households, two-room types and lofts for single-parent and multi-child families. Additionally, most units feature terraces.

The recruitment target is young people aged 19 to 39 who are homeless households residing in Mapo-gu. For single households, applicants must be preparing for employment or entrepreneurship.

The income criterion requires 70% or less of the previous year’s average monthly income of urban workers, and the asset criteria are total household assets of 241 million KRW or less, with a vehicle value of 37 million KRW or less.

The residency period is two years, and if the eligibility is maintained, up to two renewals are possible, allowing a maximum stay of six years.

Depending on the layout, the rental deposit ranges from 49 million KRW to 203 million KRW, and the monthly rent ranges from 219,000 KRW to 896,000 KRW.

Youth wishing to apply can visit their local community service center to submit the required documents.

Mapo-gu will verify applicants’ eligibility based on income and asset criteria, conduct a first document screening and a second interview screening, and announce the selected residents in May.

Confirmed residents will sign contracts starting in June and move in sequentially according to the schedule.

Detailed information about the ‘Mapo Youth House’ recruitment can be found on the Mapo-gu Office website.

Park Gang-su, Mayor of Mapo-gu, said, “We introduced the ‘Mapo Youth House’ to help young people live stable lives,” adding, “I hope the ‘Mapo Youth House’ will reduce young people’s housing burdens and become a reliable support for planning a better future.”
