On the 31st, Asan Police Station in Chungnam announced that Mr. A (in his 50s) was sent to the prosecution without detention on charges of obstruction of official duties by deception.

Mr. A is accused of making a false report to 112 at around 12:12 a.m. on the 10th of last month in front of a convenience store in Oncheon-dong, Asan City, saying, "Someone has died. I got out, but the person next door died. I saw someone with a knife."

Five police officers responded to the emergency situation and arrived at the scene, but no unusual signs were found.

Mr. A entered the convenience store and reportedly denied being the caller. When the police called the reporting number, Mr. A’s cellphone rang, but he remained uncooperative and consistently gave false statements to the police.

Mr. A, who was caught in the act, denied the charges even at the police substation and was confirmed to have withheld his personal information.

After confirming Mr. A’s personal details, the police sent him to the prosecution in mid-last month.

The police stated, "False reports to 112 will be strictly dealt with as criminal offenses," and urged, "Please never make false reports so that the police can respond promptly to those who truly need help in emergencies."
