Jin Hyeon-hwan, 1st Vice Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, "Construction Safety Accidents Require Concentration of Civil Engineering Professionals' Capabilities"

Attendance at the 28th Civil Engineering Day Event

Jin Hyun-hwan, the 1st Vice Minister of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, emphasized on the 31st that "we must protect public safety in response to climate change, aging facilities, and consecutive construction safety accidents," and stressed the "need to unite the capabilities of civil engineering professionals."


Vice Minister Jin attended the '28th Civil Engineering Day' event held by the Korean Society of Civil Engineers in Songpa-gu, Seoul, where he awarded government honors and ministerial citations to 27 individuals who contributed to the development of social infrastructure such as roads, railways, and airports. 'Civil Engineering Day' was established in 1998 to commemorate the completion of the Hanyang Fortress in 1398.

Vice Minister Jin stated, "We must join forces to enable national land infrastructure to leap forward as a high value-added industry through the convergence of digital technologies and the construction industry."


He also said, "I hope that activities for communication among civil engineering professionals, such as establishing a bipartisan cooperation system with the National Assembly through the 'Future National Land Infrastructure Innovation Forum' and participating in the private-sector-led 'Construction Cooperation Committee,' will serve as a catalyst for the public to trust the infrastructure industry more and encourage young talents to thrive."


He continued, "The government will also actively support infrastructure projects aimed at repairing aging infrastructure and resolving transportation disparities between regions, as well as the on-site application of smart construction technologies that can enhance productivity and safety."


The event was attended by over 500 people, including Choi Dong-ho, President of the Korean Society of Civil Engineers, Maeng Seong-gyu, Chairman of the National Assembly Land, Infrastructure and Transport Committee, Song Seok-jun, member of the People Power Party, Son Myung-soo, member of the Democratic Party, Lee Tae-sik, President of the Korean Federation of Science and Technology Societies, and other civil engineering industry officials.
