Yangpyeong-gun Accelerates International Exchange and Tourism Promotion through Visits to France and Switzerland The Yangpyeong County delegation, including County Governor Jeon Jin-seon, is departing on the 31st to visit France and Switzerland. Provided by Yangpyeong County

This visit focuses on deepening cooperation with Suippes, France, with which a cooperative relationship was established last year, highlighting the historical footsteps of independence activist Hong Jae-ha, and discussing matters related to the creation of the Yangpyeong International Peace Park currently underway in Yangpyeong-gun. Additionally, the delegation plans to benchmark Switzerland’s advanced tourism policies to concretize Yangpyeong-gun’s tourism development strategy.

The delegation will first hold a friendship exchange agreement ceremony between Yangpyeong-gun and Suippes in Suippes, France. Suippes is a historic city where independence activist Hong Jae-ha, who was originally from Yangpyeong, settled after World War I. Through this agreement, the two cities plan to strengthen cooperation in various fields such as culture, education, and history. The delegation will also visit elementary and middle schools in Suippes to discuss the operation of student exchange programs and explore ways to activate cultural exchanges between the youth of both countries.

Next, in Paris, France, the delegation will visit the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in France to hold a meeting with the ambassador and representatives of the French Veterans Association regarding the creation of the Yangpyeong International Peace Park. At this meeting, they will share the historical value of the Korean War and the Battle of Jipyeong-ri and discuss cooperation plans for promoting international peace memorial projects. They also plan to conduct a wreath-laying ceremony by directly inspecting the 6.25 War-related monuments and the tomb of General Monclar, who was active in the Battle of Jipyeong-ri.

Meanwhile, Yangpyeong-gun will visit Switzerland to observe cases of tourism revitalization and efforts to create a healthy city. They will benchmark Switzerland’s eco-friendly tourism policies, urban health, food policies, and age-friendly city models to seek ways to incorporate these into Yangpyeong-gun’s development strategy.

Governor Jeon Jin-seon of Yangpyeong-gun stated, “Through this visit to France, we will raise the international status of Yangpyeong-gun and lay the foundation for exchange cooperation and the activation of a healthy city.” He added, “In particular, based on the historical solidarity with France, we will successfully promote the creation of the International Peace Park and achieve tangible results in student and tourism exchanges.”
