This Year, 964 High School Students to Receive 346 Million KRW in Support
The Baegun Scholarship Foundation (Chairman Jung Inhwa) announced on the 31st that, starting this year, it has expanded its support program for high school online lecture vouchers to include all high school grades.
Last year, the foundation launched the online lecture voucher support program for the first time, providing vouchers to 635 second- and third-year high school students in January 2023.
For the 2025 program, the goal is to help students improve their academic achievement by focusing on areas of weakness during the winter break. In early December last year, vouchers were distributed to 720 second- and third-year high school students.
Notably, starting this year, first-year high school students have also been included in the program. Through a survey of demand at each school, 244 students were selected, and vouchers will be provided by early April so that they can take courses until the end of the year.
When selecting recipients at each school, the foundation ensured equal educational opportunities by selecting all applicants from low-income families. The selection criteria then prioritized students from multicultural, multi-child, and single-parent families, as well as those with outstanding academic performance.
For low-income students (those eligible for educational benefits), the full cost of the voucher was covered, while other students received support for 80% of the course fee, with the remaining 20% paid by the student.
Meanwhile, in September last year, the foundation conducted a satisfaction survey among students receiving online lecture support to identify additional preferred lecture providers. As there were no additional requests, students were allowed to freely choose lectures from the existing three providers (Megastudy, Daeseong MyMac, and Etoos).
Jung Inhwa, Mayor of Gwangyang, said, "All families with children face a significant burden regarding educational expenses. I hope that expanding the online lecture voucher support program will help reduce this burden and improve students' academic abilities."
The Gwangyang Baegun Scholarship Foundation was established in 1991 and, with contributions from the city, corporations, and voluntary donations from Gwangyang citizens, has raised 27.9 billion KRW. To date, it has awarded 14 billion KRW in scholarships to 16,875 students, striving to nurture local talent.
