Daegu District Mayors and County Governors Association Donates 10 Million Won for Wildfire Recovery

The Council of District Mayors and County Governors of Daegu (Chairman: Ryu Kyuhwa, Mayor of Jung-gu, Daegu) visited the Integrated Command Headquarters at the wildfire site in Uiseong-gun, Gyeongbuk, on the morning of the 30th and delivered a donation of 10 million KRW to Lee Cheolwoo, Governor of Gyeongbuk, for the recovery of wildfire damage in the region.


This donation was prepared by the nine district mayors and county governors of Daegu, who joined forces to support the swift recovery of major wildfire-affected areas such as Andong, Cheongsong, Yeongyang, Yeongdeok, and Uiseong in Gyeongbuk, as well as to aid the displaced residents.

Chairman Ryu Kyuhwa visited the evacuation shelters set up at Uiseong Gymnasium and Andong Indoor Gymnasium to comfort the displaced residents and check on the support situation. He also paid his respects and expressed deep condolences at the citizens' incense altars for wildfire victims, which were set up at Cheongsong Health Medical Center and the Andong Station Cultural Plaza on the Jungang Line (former Andong Station).


Chairman Ryu Kyuhwa stated, "I would like to express my deepest condolences to the residents who have lost their precious lives and homes due to the Gyeongbuk wildfires, and I hope this support will provide at least a small measure of strength for recovery and a return to daily life."


Meanwhile, the wildfires have so far resulted in 30 deaths and 45 injuries, totaling 75 casualties. The affected area is approximately 48,000 hectares, which is about 80% the size of Seoul. Additionally, it has been tallied that over 3,000 homes, 30 national heritage sites, and 2,000 agricultural facilities, totaling more than 6,000 facilities, have been damaged.
