24-Hour Surveillance... Special Measures for Cheongmyeong and Hansik
Governor Kim San Leads Campaign at Traditional Market
Muan County, South Jeolla Province (Governor Kim San) announced on the 31st that it is making every effort to prevent and respond to forest fires as the risk of wildfires increases due to dry weather and strong winds.
With the recent outbreak of large-scale wildfires in South Gyeongsang and North Gyeongsang Provinces and the spread even to Jirisan, a sense of crisis has heightened, prompting Muan County to further strengthen its proactive prevention activities.
On the 29th, Governor Kim San visited the Muan Traditional Market during the five-day market and conducted a wildfire prevention campaign, emphasizing to residents the heightened risk of wildfires during dry weather and urging them to exercise special caution. He also visited emergency duty sites in the county and towns, encouraged staff, inspected wildfire-prone areas, and closely checked the wildfire prevention and response situation.

On the 30th, the county held a wildfire prevention measures meeting via video conference, presided over by Deputy Governor Jeong Hyeongu and attended by all town and township heads, where they thoroughly discussed the status of prevention activities and initial response plans.
At the meeting, Deputy Governor Jeong Hyeongu stressed, "Thoroughly inspect vulnerable groups and facilities in advance, and ensure the flawless operation of shelters in case of emergencies." He added, "On April 4 (Cheongmyeong) and 5 (Hansik), when many people are expected to visit ancestral graves, restrict access to major hiking trails and expand emergency duty for all staff to implement special measures and reinforce monitoring activities."
He also ordered, "Utilize the disaster management fund to secure two additional wildfire suppression vehicles, deploy them in high-risk areas, and operate a 'golden time response system' to enable initial suppression within 30 minutes."
Since January, Muan County has established and operated a comprehensive wildfire prevention headquarters, maintaining a 24-hour emergency response system and taking a proactive approach to wildfire prevention.
The county has deployed 36 professional wildfire prevention and suppression personnel to patrol key areas, and on weekends, when there are many tourists and hikers, 107 staff members are intensively assigned to forest-adjacent areas and trail entrances to ensure seamless monitoring. In particular, the county is strictly applying a zero-tolerance policy by imposing three fines for burning activities in forest-adjacent areas and responding firmly.
Governor Kim San stated, "Even a small spark can lead to enormous damage, so the special attention and participation of residents are desperately needed," and added, "We will do our utmost to protect the lives and property of our residents from wildfires."
