Daewoo E&C announced on the 31st that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Korea Nuclear Fuel (KNF) to strengthen joint development and technical cooperation in domestic and overseas nuclear power projects.
Through this collaboration, the two companies will jointly research domestic and international nuclear power and nuclear fuel businesses. They plan to exchange technologies and operate a consultative body. Korea Nuclear Fuel is the only specialized company in Korea for nuclear fuel design and manufacturing, supplying all nuclear fuel necessary for the operation of nuclear power plants. It is also actively engaged in overseas projects, such as exporting fuel for the United Arab Emirates (UAE) nuclear power plant.

Daewoo E&C has previously collaborated with Korea Nuclear Fuel on projects such as establishing domestic nuclear fuel manufacturing facilities. They have also participated together in the SMART standard design certification project, a Korean Small Modular Reactor (SMR). Since starting the main equipment construction for Wolsong Nuclear Power Plant Units 3 and 4 in 1991, Daewoo E&C has completed over 30 nuclear-related projects, including Korea’s first export project?the Jordan Research Reactor, the Gyeongju Radioactive Waste Disposal Facility, and the construction of a new export research reactor in Gijang.
In 2023, Daewoo E&C signed a business agreement with Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power to develop innovative SMRs. Last month, it also established a cooperative system in the SMR field with Korea Plant Service & Engineering (KPS), further strengthening its nuclear power network. Daewoo E&C is participating as the main contractor for the Czech nuclear power plant. A Daewoo E&C official stated, "As the only construction company in Korea that provides comprehensive solutions across all nuclear power fields?from design and construction to maintenance and decommissioning?we will actively enter new nuclear power and SMR projects."
