The German Chamber of Commerce in Korea (KGCCI) announced on the 31st that Marie Antonia von Schonburg will be appointed as the new representative.


Von Schonburg is an expert with over 20 years of experience in international business, corporate relations, and chamber of commerce operations. Since 2000, she has contributed to enhancing economic cooperation between German and local companies, serving in roles such as Corporate Relations Manager and Deputy Director at the German Chamber of Commerce in Spain, Branch Manager in Barcelona in 2011, and Representative of the German Chamber of Commerce in Sri Lanka in 2022.


Originally from Stuttgart, Germany, von Schonburg majored in Business Administration at the University of Passau, Germany, and further specialized in International Marketing at the National University of Ireland, Dublin, building her expertise in global markets. She also completed an MBA program at ThePower Business School.


New Representative von Schonburg expressed, “I am honored to take on the role of the new leader of the German Chamber of Commerce in Korea. KGCCI plays a crucial role as a bridge between Korean and German companies, promoting economic cooperation and innovation. I will work with member companies and partners to create new opportunities and further strengthen our influence in both markets.”


Park Hyun-nam, Chairman of the German Chamber of Commerce in Korea, congratulated her, saying, “Von Schonburg’s extensive experience and vision will play an important role in strengthening relations between Korea and Germany, leading innovation, and supporting our members in a rapidly changing business environment.”


Founded in 1981, the German Chamber of Commerce in Korea is the second largest foreign chamber of commerce in Korea, with about 500 member companies. KGCCI represents the German economy and industry, serving as a key communication channel for companies from both Korea and Germany seeking business opportunities, as well as a business partner for market entry and expansion. It contributes to Korean society through various initiatives such as supporting government-led bilateral cooperation projects like the Korea-Germany Energy Partnership, the German-style dual vocational training program Ausbildung, and the WIR (Women in KoRea) mentorship program to promote female leadership. KGCCI is part of the global network of German Chambers of Commerce Abroad (AHK), which spans 150 locations in 93 countries. Its parent organization, the Association of German Chambers of Commerce and Industry (DIHK), oversees 79 regional chambers in Germany with approximately 3.6 million member companies.
