29 Youth Activists Appointed to Lead Geochang as a Youth-Friendly City
Geochang County in Gyeongnam announced on the 31st that it held the "5th Youth Network Appointment Ceremony" with the participation of about 30 people, including youth network activists among Geochang youth.
The Youth Network is organized and operated with the purpose of creating a better living environment for young people in Geochang, with local youth aged 19 to 45 at its core, working together to discuss and develop various policies.
The 5th Youth Network was finally composed of 29 members through an open recruitment and activist recommendations. Young people from various fields such as university students, office workers, self-employed individuals, and farmers will represent the youth to carry out a variety of activities, including ▲proposing youth policies ▲seeking solutions to youth issues ▲strengthening youth capabilities.
This appointment ceremony was held in two parts. The first part included the awarding of appointment certificates and a free discussion session with County Governor Koo Inmo, where the youth expressed their aspirations. In the second part, Lee Jonghak, CEO of OneandOnlyEDU, conducted a capacity building training under the theme "Youth are the foundation of the nation."
County Governor Koo Inmo said, "The reason Geochang County was able to be designated as Korea's first youth-friendly city is thanks to the interest and participation of the 164 members of the youth network and local residents who have been involved since 2021," and added, "We will continue to support youth so that Geochang can be a place where young people are happy and can pursue their dreams and live in the community."
Song Seungmin, an activist who has participated since the 4th term, said, "Now that Geochang County has been selected as a youth-friendly city, it is time for young people to work together to create more effective policies," and expressed his determination, "I will take the lead in gathering the voices of Geochang youth and making Geochang a place where young people are happy."
The 5th Youth Network is expected to play a pivotal role over the next year in promoting youth-friendly city projects and overall youth policy in Geochang County through education, field trips, and policy proposals.
