Modern Media Art Exhibition Space Created Under Jamsil Hosu Bridge on March 28
Six Immersive and Interactive Contents Presented Daily from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. on a 33m x 4m Media Facade
Songpa-gu (District Mayor Seo Gang-seok) announced on the 28th, ahead of the Lake Cherry Blossom Festival, that it has completed the creation of a modern-style large-scale media art exhibition space called the ‘Lake Bridge Gallery’ under the Jamsil Hosu Bridge at Seokchon Lake.
The district is cultivating Seokchon Lake as a cultural and artistic hub so that residents can enjoy refined culture and arts in their daily lives. As part of this effort, an ultra-wide media facade was installed on the heavily trafficked pedestrian passage connecting the East and West Lakes, transforming it into an immersive large-scale public art exhibition space.
As a result, the previously dark and neglected underpass walkway has been brightly illuminated with media art. Six video works are displayed in a loop on a massive media facade wall measuring 33 meters in length and 4 meters in height, from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. The works are composed of artistic pieces that harmonize with the lake scenery and those that embody the unique identity of the region. Each piece is accompanied by various music genres such as jazz and classical, enhancing the lake’s ambiance.
In particular, ‘Love Lake Bridge,’ created in collaboration with the French artist behind the ‘Wall of Love,’ adds romance to the lake. It expresses the universal human emotion of love in handwritten form in 300 different languages. This interactive piece senses visitors’ movements; a single touch brings up various love messages, and a double touch allows visitors to take commemorative photos with an SNS frame background, making it feel as if they are in Paris, adding an element of fun.
‘Four Seasons of the Lake,’ which shows the beautiful scenery of Seokchon Lake changing with the weather, provides real-time weather information such as temperature, time, and fine dust levels. Visitors can enjoy four weather scenes?rain, snow, cloudy, and clear?along with the peaceful image of the giant spherical character ‘Hahaha Hoho’ floating on the water’s surface.
Other distinctive contents that captivate passersby include ‘Happy Gaze,’ a pointillism-style homage to pop art master Roy Lichtenstein; ‘Time of Songpa,’ which depicts Songpa’s development through Eastern and Western painting styles; and ‘Light of Songpa,’ featuring a dazzling night view. The ‘Cross Gallery,’ reminiscent of a large European art museum, will later serve as a platform to introduce famous artists and young local artists.
The ‘Lake Bridge Gallery,’ which the district has been developing since 2023, is one of the 25 detailed projects under the ‘Songpa-daero Premium Street Development Project,’ a flagship pledge of the 8th local government administration. In May last year and February this year, while the project was underway, public art projects were also carried out in collaboration with world-renowned illustrators and photographers.
Seo Gang-seok, Mayor of Songpa-gu, said, “This spring, I hope everyone enjoys Seokchon Lake filled with culture and art along with the beautiful cherry blossoms without any regrets. When the light sculpture ‘The Sphere’ is completed in April, you will be able to enjoy a series of media art unique to Songpa. We will do our best to present high-quality content.”
