Park Sumin's Briefing as Floor Spokesperson
"Supplementary Budget Proposal Is a Timely and Appropriate Decision"
Emphasizes the Need for Swift Disaster Response and Support for Small Business Owners
Welcomes Budget Allocation for Trade and AI Competitiveness
Calls for Recovery from Last Year's Budget Cuts and Cautions Against Impeachment Threats
The People Power Party on the 30th evaluated the government's official move to push for an additional supplementary budget (supplementary budget) worth about 10 trillion won as a "very appropriate decision."
Park Soo-min, the party's floor spokesperson, said in a briefing that day, "It is a very timely response," and added, "I feel relieved that the government's responsiveness seems to be stabilizing since Acting President Han Deok-soo returned."
He continued, "Due to the disaster contingency funds unilaterally cut by the Democratic Party of Korea last year, the resources for disaster response are very precarious," and said, "A swift supplementary budget formulation is very necessary."
Regarding the direction to strengthen trade and artificial intelligence (AI) competitiveness included in this supplementary budget proposal, Park said, "In the rapidly changing international trade order, we must provide a safety net for our companies' trade and simultaneously realize the government's and ruling party's core vision of becoming one of the top three AI powers for the future of our children," adding, "I highly welcome the budget allocation that fits well with this."
Concerning support for people's livelihoods, he said, "The People Power Party has already proactively proposed vouchers to reduce costs for small business owners and self-employed individuals, as well as prepaid cards covering the lower-income class," and urged, "Such budget items should be well included so that budgets for consumption stimulation and cost reduction can be promptly allocated."
Park also emphasized, "Due to last year's unilateral budget sabotage by the opposition party, essential operational expenses of national institutions and budgets for nuclear research have been severely damaged," and stressed, "In this supplementary budget, the wounds caused by such budget sabotage must be properly recovered and healed."
He then added, "I am very concerned that the Democratic Party has threatened impeachment against Acting President Han and all former cabinet members," and said, "I hope they will no longer mention impeachment of all former cabinet members and so forth."
