85.5 Billion KRW to Be Provided to Three Selected Consortia
The Ministry of Science and ICT will embark on discovering innovative services based on on-device AI using domestically produced artificial intelligence (AI) semiconductors and conduct large-scale demonstrations at the city level.
On the 30th, the Ministry of Science and ICT announced that it will hold a project call for this year's on-device AI service demonstration project until the end of next month. A total of 8.55 billion KRW will be supported for three selected consortia.
On-device AI is an AI technology that can process AI algorithms and models directly on devices without an internet connection. It has advantages in terms of fast service, data security, and user optimization.
This project focuses on selecting three target service areas such as regions with transportation inconveniences, crime-vulnerable areas, and remote island and mountainous regions, and developing CCTV analysis, drone control, and other applications using on-device AI with domestically produced AI semiconductors.
The project will also promote demonstrations of AI agent services by installing domestically produced AI semiconductors capable of supporting multimodal and generative AI into robots, kiosks, and other devices.
Park Tae-wan, Director of the Information and Communication Industry Policy Bureau at the Ministry of Science and ICT, stated, "On-device AI is a key field that will open new markets for domestically produced AI semiconductors, and we will support the discovery of innovative AI services that can respond quickly to disaster situations and more."
