"Said 'Protect Women' but Ruled Abortion Ban Constitutional"
"Transgender Participation in Women's Sports"... Withdrawal of 250 Billion Won Support to Alma Mater
U.S. President Donald Trump referred to the ban on transgender participation in women's sports and defined women as "people who can have children in certain situations."
On the 28th (local time), President Trump responded this way when asked the question "What is a woman?" during an event held in the White House Oval Office. He added, "A woman is someone much smarter than a man, someone who doesn't even give men a chance to succeed," but also said, "Women have often been treated very badly."
He also said, "This crazy issue of men being able to participate in women's sports is absolutely ridiculous and very insulting and unfair to women," adding, "We love and will take care of our women."
"Said 'Protect Women' but Ruled Abortion Ban Constitutional"
Some have reacted to Trump's answer as 'bizarre.' During Trump's first term, the newly composed conservative U.S. Supreme Court ruled in June 2022 in the case of Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization that abortion bans are constitutional. Yet, just before last year's presidential election in late October, Trump said, "Whether women like it or not, we will protect women."
Locally, there are movements to stockpile abortion pills amid the possibility that the Trump administration might implement the 'Project 2025' policy restricting abortion. Aid Access, one of the largest suppliers of abortion pills, saw its orders increase 17-fold after the election. Visitors to the website 'Plan C,' which provides information on purchasing abortion pills, also surged.
Demand for contraceptive surgeries such as vasectomies or intrauterine device (IUD) insertions is also booming. The U.S. nonprofit organization Planned Parenthood reported that vasectomy appointments increased by 1200% and IUD insertion appointments rose by more than 760% immediately after Trump's election.

After signing an executive order last month banning transgender athletes from participating in women's sports, the Department of Education has been investigating violations at various universities. Among the approximately 500,000 athletes affiliated with the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), about 10 are known to be transgender athletes.
After the University of Pennsylvania allowed transgender participation in women's sports, federal government grant support for transgender individuals was suspended. A White House official stated on the 19th, "The Department of Defense and the Department of Health and Human Services have suspended funding of $175 million (approximately 250 billion won) to the University of Pennsylvania." The University of Pennsylvania is part of the Ivy League (eight prestigious private universities) in the U.S. East Coast and is also the alma mater of President Donald Trump, who graduated from its Wharton School (business school).
