Daegu City expresses its deepest condolences to the victims and their families who tragically lost their lives in the Yeongnam region wildfire accident. From March 31 to April 4, a joint memorial altar will be set up and operated at the An Byeonggeun Olympic Memorial Judo Center in Dalseo-gu.
The altar will be open daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. for five days, and on the first day, March 31, it will be available for offerings starting at 2 p.m.
Public officials and volunteers will be on duty at the joint altar to guide citizens in making offerings and floral tributes. Police and security personnel will also be deployed around the altar to ensure the safety and order of visitors.
The establishment and operation of this joint altar was expedited so that citizens could quickly join in mourning, as North Gyeongsang Province, which suffered the most damage, and Daegu have long shared a close community, and many citizens have ties to the Yeongnam region, even though recovery efforts are still ongoing.
Hong Joonpyo, Mayor of Daegu, said, "We extend our deepest condolences to the victims and their families who were tragically lost in this accident, and we hope for a swift recovery from the damage. Daegu City will also join in the atmosphere of mourning and provide our full support."
Mayor Hong Joonpyo and senior officials plan to visit the joint altar at 3 p.m. on March 31 to pay their respects.
