The Asia Culture Center Foundation (President Kim Sunok, hereinafter referred to as the Foundation) announced on the 28th that it has developed and released four types of cultural products in connection with the recently opened permanent special exhibition at the Asia Culture Center, "Letters from an Enthusiast."
"Letters from an Enthusiast" is a media art exhibition that metaphorically explores traces of urban life through popular music featuring the rhythms of trot and ppongjjak, as well as similar Asian music. The exhibition showcases Asian popular music materials collected by the center over the years, along with records and contract documents owned by "Oasis Record," the oldest record company in Korea.
The Foundation developed four products using illustrations symbolic of this exhibition: ▲ letterpress postcards ▲ strap pen holders ▲ Sochang handkerchiefs ▲ Hanji fans.
The "letterpress postcard" is produced using a traditional technique in which wooden or metal type is arranged, placed in a press, and inked under pressure so that the ink adheres to the surface. Each card is crafted by hand rather than by machine, resulting in delicate color expression and a unique texture on the postcard’s surface. The "Sochang handkerchief" uses Sochang fabric from "Yeonsun Textile," which continues the tradition of Ganghwa Sochang, and is adorned with single-layer embroidery for added elegance.
The "Hanji fan" is made by applying dye to Hanji paper using the screenprinting technique, a form of printmaking. The fan is completed by attaching a handle and ribs handcrafted by master artisan Choi Subong from Namwon.
Kim Sunok, President of the Asia Culture Center Foundation, stated, "I hope people can experience the wistful yet smooth sensibility of trot through these cultural products," and added, "We will continue to develop and introduce products that reflect the significance of the center’s content."
