Jeon Jin-seon, Yangpyeong County Governor, Leads Mobile Voice Phishing Prevention Education to Protect Residents

Yangpyeong-gun, Gyeonggi Province (Governor Jeon Jin-seon) announced on the 28th that it conducted a ‘Visiting Voice Phishing Prevention Education’ as part of measures to protect residents amid growing concerns about voice phishing damage among the elderly during the off-season. This project was personally supported by Governor Jeon Jin-seon to strengthen community safety.

This education is part of Yangpyeong-gun’s ‘Our Neighborhood Learning Trip’ program and is conducted by visiting villages directly in a way that residents can easily understand. As voice phishing schemes have become increasingly sophisticated recently, especially crimes impersonating family members or government agencies targeting the elderly are on the rise, the program focuses on enhancing practical response skills through education centered on real cases.

So far, a total of three sessions have been held in three villages: Danseok 1-ri in Yangdong-myeon, Ssanghak 2-ri, and Samsan 3-ri, with about 45 residents participating. The elderly participants said, “Hearing actual cases made us realize that voice phishing is not someone else’s problem,” expressing their agreement on the necessity of the education. Additional sessions are planned to be held at Jipyeong Resident Autonomy Center and Sewol 2-ri in the future.

Governor Jeon Jin-seon of Yangpyeong-gun stated, “Recently, there have been many cases of voice phishing where perpetrators impersonate family members to demand money, and since damage can occur from just one phone call or text message, prevention education is essential. Through this ‘Visiting Learning Trip,’ we will familiarize residents with voice phishing methods in advance and expand education so that they can respond calmly and appropriately when receiving suspicious calls.”
