Original Proposal for 'Shingles Support Ordinance' Initiated by Gwangju City Council Member Choi Seoyoon Passed as Proposed

Choi Seoyoon, a member of the Gwangju-si Council in Gyeonggi Province (People Power Party), proposed the "Ordinance on Support for Shingles Vaccination in Gwangju-si," which was approved as originally proposed at the 2nd plenary session of the 315th extraordinary meeting held on the 28th.

The core of this ordinance is to establish an institutional basis for Gwangju-si to support the costs necessary for shingles vaccination to protect the health of the elderly and immunocompromised groups and to eliminate medical blind spots.

The main contents of the ordinance specify supporting the cost of shingles vaccination for Gwangju-si citizens who meet certain criteria, including ▲support eligibility standards ▲types of vaccination ▲scope and method of cost support ▲application procedures for support. It is expected to provide practical help especially to elderly citizens and those with weakened immunity.

Councilor Choi Seoyoon stated, "Shingles can cause severe pain and long-term complications once it occurs, so prevention is of utmost importance," and added, "This ordinance was prepared with the intention that Gwangju-si should take the lead in protecting citizens' health so that no one delays vaccination due to financial difficulties."

She continued, "The enactment of this ordinance is not just simple welfare support but a policy starting point to secure health equity," emphasizing, "We will continue to strengthen prevention-centered health administration to contribute to improving the quality of life for citizens."

The Gwangju-si Council plans to further accelerate the enactment of ordinances and policy development to improve citizens' quality of life and welfare enjoyment in the future.
