Strengthening Busan Port's Competitiveness... Three Agency Heads Gather Together

Administrative Council of Heads of Busan Regional Office of Oceans and Fisheries, Busan City, and Busan Port Authority to Be Held
First Joint Meeting in Eight Years to Address Key Issues Including North Port Redevelopment
Three Major Institutions Join Forces to Enhance Busan Port’s Competitiveness

Busan Port Authority, in collaboration with the Busan Regional Office of Oceans and Fisheries and Busan Metropolitan City, will hold the "Administrative Council of Heads of Busan Office, Busan City, and BPA" at the Busan Regional Office of Oceans and Fisheries on the 1st of next month.

The Administrative Council of Heads is a consultative body where three key institutions representing Busan’s maritime and port sectors, including the Busan Regional Office of Oceans and Fisheries, share the vision for the development of Busan Port and discuss major issues under the common goal of "Enhancing the Competitiveness of Busan Port."

This council will be attended by Kim Hyejeong, Head of the Busan Regional Office of Oceans and Fisheries, Kim Gwanghoe, Deputy Mayor for Future Innovation of Busan City, and Song Sanggeun, President of Busan Port Authority, along with other key executives from the three institutions.

The Administrative Council of Heads of the three institutions is being held for the first time in eight years since 2017. With urgent local issues such as the redevelopment of North Port and changes in the international logistics environment, expectations from the local industry are high.

This meeting will meticulously review important and urgent issues submitted by each institution, including the redevelopment of North Port, the creation of a truck parking lot at Busan North Port, the 2025 Busan Port Festival, and amendments to local tax reduction ordinances. The outcomes of the meeting will be continuously managed through a working-level council to ensure their implementation.

Kim Hyejeong, Head of the Busan Regional Office of Oceans and Fisheries, stated, "As the challenges facing the shipping and port industry, such as the recent economic downturn and the imposition of tariffs by the United States, grow, so do the hopes and expectations of the local community for the development of Busan Port, including the redevelopment of North Port. The Administrative Council of Heads will strive to become a cooperative channel for devising development strategies for Busan centered on Busan Port and for resolving key issues."

Kim Gwanghoe, Deputy Mayor for Future Innovation of Busan City, said, "Busan Port is not just a logistics hub, but the very identity of Busan and a core growth engine driving the city's economy, industry, and urban development. I hope that, as we move toward building Busan as a global hub city and elevating Busan Port to the top port in Northeast Asia, the three institutions will come together through this Administrative Council of Heads to discuss current issues and open the way for their resolution."

Song Sanggeun, President of Busan Port Authority, commented, "Busan Port is continuously striving to advance from being the transshipment hub of Northeast Asia to a world-class global port amid rapidly changing international circumstances. To achieve this goal, we will join forces with the Busan Regional Office of Oceans and Fisheries and Busan City to drive the sustainable growth and development of Busan Port. I expect this Administrative Council to strengthen the organic cooperation system among institutions and to serve as a catalyst for enhancing the future competitiveness of Busan Port."

The next meeting is scheduled to be hosted by Busan City in the second half of the year.
