Democratic Party 41%, People Power Party 33%
60% Support President Yoon's Impeachment, 34% Oppose
As the ruling on President Yoon Suk-yeol's impeachment trial is delayed, a public opinion poll showed that the support rate for the Democratic Party of Korea is ahead of the People Power Party beyond the margin of error. Regarding President Yoon's impeachment, six out of ten respondents expressed support for it.
According to a public opinion poll released on the 28th by Gallup (conducted from the 25th to the 27th nationwide targeting 1,000 people aged 18 and over via wireless phone interviews, with a sampling error of ±3.1 percentage points at a 95% confidence level, and a response rate of 13.0%), the support rate for the People Power Party was 33%, down 3 percentage points from the previous week. The Democratic Party of Korea was surveyed at 41%, up 1 percentage point from the previous week. This means the Democratic Party leads the People Power Party by 8 percentage points, which is beyond the margin of error.
According to the Gallup poll, in the third week of December last year, the Democratic Party recorded 48% support while the People Power Party had 24%, showing the Democratic Party leading beyond the margin of error. However, in the second week of January, the gap narrowed within the margin of error with the Democratic Party at 36% and the People Power Party at 34%.
Regarding President Yoon's impeachment, the opinion supporting impeachment rose by 2 percentage points from the previous week to 60%. The opposition to impeachment decreased by 2 percentage points to 34%.
In a survey about the next presidential candidate and future political leaders, Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party, ranked first with 34%. Kim Moon-soo, Minister of Employment and Labor, received 8%, Han Dong-hoon, former leader of the People Power Party, 5%, Oh Se-hoon, Mayor of Seoul, 3%, Hong Joon-pyo, Mayor of Daegu, 3%, and Ahn Cheol-soo, People Power Party lawmaker, 1%. Regarding the next presidential election scenario, 34% agreed with the continuation of the current administration if the ruling party candidate wins, while 53% supported a regime change if the opposition candidate wins.
Regarding the National Pension agreement, 38% of respondents expressed support, while 41% opposed it. Opinions on pension reform varied by generation. Among those in their 20s and 30s, opposition was high at 58% and 64%, respectively. In their 40s, support and opposition were similar at 41% and 44%. For those aged 50 and above, about half expressed support.
