Gwangju City will deliver disaster relief funds and aid supplies to support the recovery of areas affected by large-scale wildfires in North Gyeongsang, South Gyeongsang, and Ulsan, as well as to help residents return to their daily lives.
On the 28th, Gwangju City announced that it would donate 250 million won in disaster relief funds to the Gwangju-Jeonnam branch of the Korean Red Cross to support the recovery of wildfire-affected areas in North Gyeongsang, South Gyeongsang, and Ulsan and to assist displaced residents.
The relief funds will provide 100 million won each to North Gyeongsang and South Gyeongsang, and 50 million won to Ulsan. These funds will be used for the swift recovery of wildfire-affected areas and for relief efforts for displaced residents.
On this day, the Gwangju Volunteer Center delivered relief supplies worth 23.4 million won to Sancheong County in South Gyeongsang and Cheongsong County in North Gyeongsang, both designated as special disaster areas due to wildfires. The relief supplies include 60 emergency relief kits (30 each for men and women), as well as food and beverages such as kimchi and cup noodles. An additional 6 million won in donations, collected by the Gwangju Environment Corporation and the volunteer centers of Gwangju City and its districts, will also be delivered.
The city had previously provided emergency relief supplies during the large-scale wildfires in Uljin County, North Gyeongsang, and Samcheok City, Gangwon Province, in 2022. In January of this year, it supported the aftermath of the Jeju Air passenger plane accident by providing 1 billion won in disaster relief funds. Gwangju also operated an integrated volunteer support group at Muan International Airport, provided meal trucks, and managed a joint memorial altar as part of its on-site response efforts.
Mayor Kang Gijung said, "I offer my condolences to those who lost their lives in this wildfire and extend words of comfort to the local residents struggling with the aftermath. I hope that the relief supplies and donations from Gwangju will help restore the affected areas and stabilize the local communities."
