Goyang City Employees Join Wildfire Recovery Efforts
"Hoping for Healing and Overcoming the Pain"
Goyang Special City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Lee Dong-hwan) announced on the 28th that it will conduct a fundraising campaign among all employees to comfort residents of the Gyeongbuk and Gyeongnam regions who are suffering from recent large-scale wildfires and to help with recovery efforts.
The city began the fundraising campaign to provide even a small amount of support to the officials fighting the wildfires on the front lines and to the residents of the affected areas, as the wildfires that started simultaneously on the 21st spread across the Yeongnam region, causing extensive damage.
This fundraising campaign is being carried out through the voluntary participation of Goyang city employees to ensure the swift recovery of the wildfire-affected areas and support for disaster victims, and will continue until the 31st. The collected funds will be donated to the Community Chest of Korea.
In addition, the city plans to actively support recovery efforts by encouraging employees who have ties to the wildfire-affected areas to use disaster relief leave.
Mayor Lee Dong-hwan of Goyang Special City said, "I sincerely extend my deepest condolences to those affected by this sudden disaster," adding, "I hope this fundraising will help ease the pain of the affected residents, even if only a little."
Previously, Goyang Special City also provided disaster relief funds of $30,000 when a large wildfire occurred in its sister city, Maui County, Hawaii, and donated funds to support disaster victims during the 2023 floods.
