Incheon~Zurich·Calgary Summer Flights Resume... Prague·London Increased Service

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on the 28th that domestic and international airlines will operate up to 4,783 weekly flights on 246 international routes during this summer season. This represents an increase of about 5.6% compared to the same period last year.

Most countries, including South Korea, adjust airline flight schedules twice a year (summer and winter) based on airline applications. This year’s summer season runs from the 30th of this month until October 25. The number of flights during the summer season is about 2.3% lower compared to the winter season.

Routes that suspended operations during the winter season, such as Incheon?Zurich (Switzerland), Calgary (Canada), Zagreb (Croatia), and Gimhae?Xi'an (China), will resume flights. Routes with high demand such as Incheon?Prague (Czech Republic), London (United Kingdom), Almaty (Kazakhstan), Gimhae?Ulaanbaatar (Mongolia), and Daegu?Fukuoka (Japan) have increased flights. There are also newly launched routes such as Japan?Kobe.

For domestic flights, a total of 19 routes, including 11 Jeju routes and 8 inland routes, will operate 1,850 weekly flights. Jeju accounts for 1,558 weekly flights. The Ministry explained, "While responding to the high summer demand on Jeju routes, we have comprehensively considered the stable operation of small regional routes, so domestic flights this summer will operate at a level similar to last summer."

They also informed each airline in advance that flight schedules and frequencies may be adjusted if necessary according to the aviation safety innovation plan to be announced next month. Muan Airport will assist by reviewing safety and other factors if airlines apply for flights in line with the airport’s future reopening schedule.

Kim Young-guk, Director of Aviation Policy at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, said, "We finalized the flight schedules by focusing on passenger demand, increasing flights on high-demand routes to Europe, Central Asia, and Mongolia during the summer season, while reducing flights on relatively low-demand Southeast Asian routes. We will continue to ensure safe flight operations for airlines while diversifying routes to enhance passenger convenience."
