Dreaming of Farming in the City... Gijang-gun Recruiting for Urban Farmer Training Course

Gijang-gun (Governor Jung Jongbok) Agricultural Technology Center announced on the 27th that it is recruiting participants for the '2025 Urban Farmers' Farming Skills Course' aimed at residents interested in urban agriculture.

Urban agriculture goes beyond simply growing plants; it plays an important role in various areas such as environmental protection, healthy leisure activities, and community building. For modern urbanites, agriculture creates a link to nature and holds potential value for emotional stability and healing.

This training program is designed to promote and spread the value of urban agriculture and will be held a total of 10 times (40 hours) from April 23 to June 25.

The curriculum includes both theory and practical training, covering topics such as ▲establishing vegetable gardens and soil management ▲cultivation techniques for vegetables, herbs, and fruiting crops ▲eco-friendly pest and disease control ▲utilization of beneficial microorganisms ▲hands-on practice applying agricultural technology, making it easy for beginners to learn about urban agriculture.

The center plans to provide useful information that can be applied in daily life, especially as urban agriculture is gaining attention as a response to climate change and as a sustainable lifestyle.

The course is completely free of charge and is open to 30 residents of Gijang-gun who are interested in urban agriculture, on a first-come, first-served basis. Applications have been accepted online through the Gijang-gun Agricultural Technology Center website since the 26th. For further information about the course, please contact the Agricultural Education Team at the Gijang-gun Agricultural Technology Center.

Jung Jongbok, Governor of Gijang-gun, said, "I hope this program will provide many residents with an opportunity to easily experience urban agriculture and practice a healthy and sustainable lifestyle."

The Gijang-gun Agricultural Technology Center has been operating a variety of educational programs to expand the base of urban agriculture and foster activists since being designated as an urban agriculture professional training institution and Urban Agriculture Support Center in 2018.
