The Jeju Special Self-Governing Province Autonomous Police Agency (Chief Oh Chungik) announced, "Ahead of the spring excursion season, we have been conducting special joint crackdowns on drunk driving with the Seogwipo Police Station since March 19 to prevent drunk driving accidents," and added, "In particular, following a series of recent fatal traffic accidents in the Seogwipo area, comprehensive crackdowns, including on foreigners, are being carried out."
As part of this effort, during a joint crackdown conducted at the entrance of Jungmun Tourist Complex in Seogwipo City on the 25th, a foreign drunk driver (female, in her 30s) was caught and received a license suspension (0.036).
This crackdown was carried out in line with the "Special Crackdown Period on Foreigners’ Traffic Disorderly Conduct" currently operated by the Jeju Provincial Police Agency, with the autonomous police and national police focusing intensively on traffic law violations by foreigners.
Notably, in this case, a foreign language specialist from the autonomous police accompanied the scene, enabling swift and smooth enforcement without language barriers.
Kang Suchun, head of the Seogwipo Regional Police Division of the Autonomous Police Agency, stated, "Due to the nature of Seogwipo as a tourist destination, the proportion of foreign drivers is high, making interpretation support and promotion of traffic laws for them very important," and added, "We will continue to work closely with the national police to do our utmost to prevent traffic accidents and eradicate drunk driving in the region."
