Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education Expands 'School Commute Safety Task Force'
Proactive Measures for Student Safety at Schools Near the Constitutional Court
On the 27th, the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education decided to expand the operation of the 'School Commute Safety Task Force' to ensure safe commuting routes for schools around the Constitutional Court. This measure comes as the impeachment trial rallies have prolonged for over three months, causing continued congestion on the commuting routes near the Constitutional Court.
As the new trial verdict on President Yoon Seok-yeol's impeachment is delayed, the conflict between opposing support groups among the public is intensifying. On the 21st, flags at the Constitutional Court in Jongno-gu, Seoul, fluttered in the wind. 2025.03.21 Photo by Yoon Dong-ju
The Office of Education plans to deploy 20 personnel daily to 11 kindergartens, elementary, middle, high, and special schools near the Constitutional Court, including ▲Gyodong Elementary School, Gyeongun School ▲Unhyeon Kindergarten, Unhyeon Elementary School ▲Jaedong Kindergarten, Jaedong Elementary School, Daedong Tax High School ▲Deoksung Girls' Middle School, Deoksung Girls' High School ▲Jungang Middle School, Jungang High School, to ensure students can commute safely. Accordingly, education office staff will work in pairs, supporting commuting routes at school gates and main paths during school hours (07:30?09:30 for arrival and 13:30?16:30 for dismissal). They will also handle tasks such as confirming handover to parents and boarding of academy vehicles, and control access of outsiders at school gates.
The Office of Education plans to prevent safety accidents through the School Commute Safety Task Force and establish a system that can respond promptly to incidents by utilizing an emergency communication network among the education office, schools, and related organizations.
Additionally, safety letters from the Superintendent of Education will be sent to parents of students at the 11 schools near the Constitutional Court, and requests will be made to the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency and Jongno Police Station to strengthen safety measures on commuting routes and prevent student safety accidents.
In January, the Office of Education also implemented 'Safety Measures for Commuting Routes Related to Large-scale Rallies and Demonstrations' and continues to conduct on-site inspections and monitoring of commuting routes on hearing and rally days.
Jung Geun-sik, Superintendent of the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education, stated, "We will secure the safety of school commuting routes through proactive administration and do our best to stabilize educational activities."
