First Meeting of Cheongyang Jicheon Dam Construction Residents' Council... "Persuading Opposing Residents to Participate"

Governor Kim Taeheum:
"Support Plan of 100 Billion KRW
to Be Determined After Council Discussions"

First Meeting of Cheongyang Jicheon Dam Construction Residents' Council... "Persuading Opposing Residents to Participate" Governor Kim Taeheum is speaking at the Jicheondam Regional Council meeting held in the Chungnam Provincial Government Situation Room on the 27th.

The residents' council to discuss the potential construction of the Jicheon Dam in Cheongyang, Chungnam held its first meeting on the 27th, despite the absence of residents opposing the project.

The meeting was attended by Governor Kim Taeheum, Kim Youngmyeong, Director of the Provincial Environment and Forestry Bureau, three public officials from each city and county, two expert committee members, and nine resident committee members from Buyeo and Cheongyang areas. After electing a chairperson to lead the council, they confirmed the operational regulations and discussed the future direction of the council's activities.

Initially, the council faced criticism for being a "half-hearted" meeting due to the absence of opposing residents during its formation process. Nevertheless, the province proceeded with the meeting as originally planned.

However, the province stated that it would continue to encourage the participation of residents who oppose the project.

Governor Kim Taeheum said, "The province and city/counties will persuade the opposing residents to attend," adding, "If we discuss together with the opposing residents, many of the concerns can be resolved."

He also requested, "Please ensure that the province and city/county officials share the content discussed in the council with the opposing residents and keep them informed."

On this day, Governor Kim also expressed his position regarding the 100 billion KRW provincial budget pledged to support the Jicheon Dam construction area.

Governor Kim stated, "The intention behind providing 100 billion KRW is to use it as an opportunity to revitalize the local economy and promote population inflow through tourism development and modernization of the agriculture and livestock sectors," adding, "The province will actively supplement any shortcomings in the support provided by the central government."

He further added, "If projects needed for the region are discussed through the council, it will later be decided how the 100 billion KRW will be used."

After Governor Kim's remarks, the meeting continued behind closed doors.

The next council meeting is scheduled to be held at 2 p.m. on the 3rd of next month.
