Jung-gu District in Daegu (District Mayor Ryu Kyuha) announced on the 27th that it will carry out a free signboard removal project by the end of June, targeting signboards that have been left unattended for a long period due to business closure or relocation.
The main targets of this project are signboards that damage the city's appearance or pose a threat to residents' safety due to damage or deterioration. Private guide signs are also included.
The maintenance process will proceed as follows: after receiving applications from building owners or managers and confirming the site, signboards with identified owners will be encouraged to be removed voluntarily, while ownerless signboards will be removed after obtaining a consent form.
Applications can be submitted from April 1 to April 30 at the Urban Design Division of Jung-gu District Office or at the relevant local administrative welfare centers. In May, the final list of signboards to be removed will be confirmed and consent forms collected, with full-scale removal work scheduled to begin in June.
Ryu Kyuha, Mayor of Jung-gu District in Daegu, stated, "We will continue to maintain and remove hazardous and unsightly signboards to prevent safety accidents during natural disasters such as summer storms and to maintain a pleasant urban environment."
Meanwhile, Jung-gu District in Daegu removed 35 ownerless signboards in 2022, 31 in 2023, and 34 last year.
