"Family Love in Joseon Dynasty Hangul Letters"... Special Exhibition Until July 6

The National Hangeul Museum of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced on the 27th that it will jointly hold the special exhibition "Hangeul, Writing the Heart" with the Chungcheongnam-do Institute of History and Culture. The exhibition will be open to visitors in the special exhibition hall at the Chungcheongnam-do History Museum until July 6.

This exhibition is a follow-up to the memorandum of understanding signed last year for cooperation between the two institutions. It showcases the collections related to Hangeul materials from the royal family and yangban households during the Joseon Dynasty in one place. Exhibits include the Hangeul palace script of Princess Deokon, which reflects the dignity of the royal family, the treasure "Jeongjo Eopil Hangeul Pyeonjijeop" containing 14 Hangeul letters of King Jeongjo, and "Eongan Dok," which organizes Hangeul letters and forms exchanged among family members. There is also royal Hangeul letter experience content using digital devices.

Since 2016, the National Hangeul Museum has been extensively collecting Hangeul materials related to Princess Deokon (德溫公主, 1822?1844) and her family. This exhibition carefully selects and introduces Hangeul materials expressing the affection and love among the royal family members. Items on display include "Mangjeondanja," a list of foods sent by Queen Sunwon for the memorial service of her youngest daughter Princess Deokon, and "Jagyeongjeongi," written by Princess Deokon in Hangeul palace script.

'Seonbi Will', a Korean-language testament left by the mother of Im Heonhoe (任憲晦, 1811?1876), a representative Neo-Confucian scholar of the 19th century, to her son one day before her passing. Provided by Chungcheongnam-do History Museum.

"Seonbiyueon" (1855), held by the Chungcheongnam-do History Museum, is a Hangeul will left by the mother of Im Heonhoe (任憲晦, 1811?1876), a representative Neo-Confucian scholar of the 19th century, one day before her death. It is a valuable document where the handwriting of both mother and son can be seen side by side, offering a glimpse into the mother's concern for her son's health despite her own serious illness.

Meanwhile, the National Hangeul Museum will operate a touring exhibition in cooperation with a total of seven related institutions this year, including this exhibition. The experimental project "Modern Hangeul Research Institute," where several artists reinterpret the changes in modern Hangeul, will be presented in Gimpo and Busan. The children's interactive exhibition "Children's Country" will be held in Gongju and Gumi, and the exhibition introducing regional unique language cultures, "Satourineun Mot Chamji!" will be open in Gangneung and Jeju.
