Up to 80% Subsidy for Solar, Solar Thermal, and Geothermal Installations
Applications Open from April 1
Yeongju City in North Gyeongsang Province will be recruiting applicants from April 1 to 11 for the “2026 New and Renewable Energy Convergence Support Project,” which is organized by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and the Korea Energy Agency.
The “New and Renewable Energy Convergence Support Project” is a government-funded subsidy program that supports the installation of new and renewable energy facilities such as solar power, solar thermal, and geothermal systems in homes and buildings to create energy self-sufficient cities and establish a foundation for carbon neutrality. If selected through the competition, installations will take place in 2026.
Up to 80% of installation costs will be supported depending on the type of energy source, with the remaining self-payment estimated at approximately 1.7 million KRW for solar power, 1.6 million KRW for solar thermal, and 5.5 million KRW for geothermal systems for residential houses.
To apply for the project, building owners must visit their local Eup, Myeon, or Dong Administrative Welfare Center in person to obtain the required documents such as the building register, then fill out and submit the application form. The application form and further details can be found in the notices section on the Yeongju City Hall website.
Recipients will be selected through document review and on-site inspection (including grid connection feasibility with KEPCO), followed by evaluation by the Korea Energy Agency, with the results of the competition expected to be announced around November this year. However, if the number of applicants exceeds the available budget, the final recipients will be selected through a random online draw.
Kim Wonseop, Head of the Job and Economy Division, said, “Through the New and Renewable Energy Convergence Support Project, we hope to reduce citizens’ electricity and heating costs and contribute to creating a green energy city by reducing greenhouse gas emissions,” and encouraged many citizens to participate.
Yeongju City has been selected for this competition for four consecutive years from 2022 to 2025, completing the installation of new and renewable energy systems at a total of 1,140 sites by 2024, and is currently installing systems at 358 sites in 2025.
