Calls for Prompt Resolution of the Yangdong Market Public Parking Lot Issue
Baek Jonghan, a member of the Gwangju Seo-gu Council (Hwajeong 3-dong, Hwajeong 4-dong, Pungam-dong), announced on the 27th that he delivered a five-minute free speech at the 2nd plenary session of the 329th temporary meeting, proposing policies to attract foreigners to Seo-gu.
Baek addressed several topics, including: proposing policies to attract foreigners to Seo-gu as a response to population decline; the designation of Sangmu District as an Urban Convergence Special Zone and Seo-gu Office's preparations; expanding real estate consultation functions to prevent damages such as rental fraud; support for social economy enterprises, small business owners, and the self-employed; and resolving issues related to the Yangdong Market Union Public Parking Lot.
Baek stated, "As of January 2025, the population of Seo-gu stands at 278,614 and continues to decrease, while the number of foreigners in Seo-gu in 2023 was 2,875, a 16.4% increase from the previous year." He added, "We must urge for active population policies, such as establishing a dedicated department and increasing staff to effectively implement support policies for foreigners."
He also inquired about Seo-gu Office's plans for the designation of Sangmu District as an Urban Convergence Special Zone, a topic he previously addressed in a five-minute free speech last December, and once again called for the promotion of real estate consultation services to prevent rental fraud.
Finally, Baek urged Seo-gu Office to prepare active measures for social economy enterprises, small business owners, and the self-employed amid an unstable political climate. He concluded by calling for prompt action regarding the Yangdong Market Union Public Parking Lot, which has remained unused for three months since its completion last December.
