Gangwon Public Officials Asset Disclosure
Governor Kim Reports 3.99 Billion KRW, Up 134 Million KRW from Last Year
During the past year, Kim Jin-tae, Governor of Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province, increased his assets by 134,419,000 KRW, and Jeong Gwang-yeol, Deputy Governor for Economic Affairs, saw an increase of 265,240,000 KRW.
The Government Public Officials Ethics Committee and the Gangwon Province Public Officials Ethics Committee disclosed on the 27th the asset status of the governor, heads of Gangwon Province and its affiliated institutions, mayors and county heads of Gangwon, provincial assembly members, and city and county council members who are obligated to report asset changes through the Republic of Korea Electronic Official Gazette and the provincial gazette. The asset changes reported cover the period from January 1 to December 31 of last year.
The assets of the Governor of Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province, Executive Vice Governor, Deputy Governor for Economic Affairs, Chairperson and Secretary-General of the Autonomous Police Committee, President of Gangwon Provincial University, 49 provincial assembly members, and 16 mayors and county heads are disclosed through the Government Public Officials Ethics Committee’s official gazette. Meanwhile, the asset status of nine heads of public-related organizations under the jurisdiction of the Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province Public Officials Ethics Committee (Chairman Kim Byung-chul), including the President of Gangwon Development Corporation and the Director of Gangwon Technopark, as well as 174 city and county council members from 18 cities and counties in Gangwon Province, are disclosed through the Gangwon Provincial Gazette and the Public Officials Ethics System (peti.go.kr).
Governor Kim Jin-tae reported assets totaling 3,994,571,000 KRW, showing an increase of 134,419,000 KRW compared to the previous report. The largest portion of Governor Kim’s assets is real estate. He reported the jointly owned apartment with his spouse in Daechi-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul (128.32㎡) at 2,383,000,000 KRW, up from 2,249,000,000 KRW the previous year. Although the reported deposits (including those of himself, his spouse, and his second son) slightly decreased from 1,478,390,000 KRW last year to 1,443,950,000 KRW this year, Governor Kim’s personal deposits increased from 687,970,000 KRW last year to 741,270,000 KRW this year. The changes are attributed to increased income from Governor Kim’s salary and living expenses.
Deputy Governor for Economic Affairs Jeong Gwang-yeol reported assets of 5,463,870,000 KRW, an increase of 265,240,000 KRW from the previous report. Superintendent of Education Shin Kyung-ho reported 426,899,000 KRW, an increase of 68,400,000 KRW from the previous report.
Among the heads of Gangwon Province’s affiliated institutions, the person who reported the highest assets was Kwon Oh-seon, Director of Samcheok Medical Center, with 5,039,260,000 KRW. Following him were Heo Jang-hyun, Director of Gangwon Technopark, with 3,278,880,000 KRW; Kwon Tae-hyung, Director of Wonju Medical Center, with 2,535,400,000 KRW; and Kim Jong-wook, Director of Gangneung Medical Center, with 2,390,750,000 KRW.
The average reported assets of the mayors and county heads of the 16 cities and counties in Gangwon Province were 1,202,720,000 KRW, showing an average increase of 37,240,000 KRW compared to last year’s reported assets.
Mayor Kim Hong-gyu of Gangneung reported 5,475,920,000 KRW, ranking first among mayors and county heads. Yanggu County Head Seo Heung-won ranked second with 3,294,410,000 KRW. Mayor Lee Sang-ho of Taebaek reported 93,900,000 KRW, ranking last.
The average assets reported by the 49 Gangwon provincial assembly members were approximately 1,157,000,000 KRW. The average reported assets of the 174 city and county council members from 18 cities and counties were 872,960,000 KRW, an increase of 26,630,000 KRW compared to the previous report.
The highest asset holder was Kim Hong-su, a Gangneung city council member, with 13,438,460,000 KRW. Three city and county council members reported a decrease in assets compared to the previous year: Kim Myung-jin of Hwacheon County (-26,470,000 KRW), Na Yu-gyeong of Chuncheon City (-29,250,000 KRW), and Kim Jin of Goseong County (-77,790,000 KRW).
